Police have officially closed their investigation into Hayden Panettiere’s death, confirming that the 36-year-old actress died from an accidental drug overdose.

The Greenville Police Department in South Carolina announced Wednesday that detectives had completed their investigation, more than two months after the Nashville star was found unresponsive.

“Based on the Medical Examiner’s determination and the findings of the investigation, Hayden Panettiere’s death has been ruled accidental,” the department said in a statement obtained by Good Morning America.

“The Greenville Police Department has concluded its investigation.”

Panettiere died on Aug. 16 at a residence in Greenville, where emergency responders attempted to revive her.

Toxicology results later revealed that the combined effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine caused her death.

Although the coroner had previously classified her death as accidental, police continued examining the circumstances. No criminal charges were filed.

Her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother Zach were reportedly present when emergency personnel arrived. Zach had discovered the actress unresponsive inside the residence.

In September, her former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko sought temporary guardianship over their daughter Kaya’s estate interests while Panettiere’s estate moved through probate.

The former boxer said the arrangement would allow him to protect Kaya’s inheritance and represent her interests in the proceedings.
