Derek Dixon, the actor who sued Hollywood director Tyler Perry for $260 million, alleging sexual assault, has finally broken his silence.

“I couldn’t just let him get away with this,” he told Variety.

“Everyone deserves to go to work and do their job without their boss trying to have sex with them,” he continued. “My goal is to help ensure that the next generation of actors and creatives don’t have to choose between their dreams and their dignity.”

Dixon, who starred on Perry’s Ruthless and The Oval, claims the entertainment mogul dangled career opportunities in front of him before things allegedly took a dark turn. When Dixon didn’t go along with the alleged advances, he claims retaliation followed.

Dixon says Perry subjected him to a pattern of “escalating sexual harassment, assault, and battery,” all while holding the keys to his job, paycheck, and future in the industry.

In the interview, Dixon claims that he was threatened that his character, Dale, would be killed off if he “did a good job.”

In June 2021, Dixon says Perry invited him to his home to talk about Dixon’s pilot, Losing It. “I was worried but I knew I had to go,” Dixon recalled. “I thought if he tried anything again, I could handle it and de-escalate it like I usually did.”

Instead, Dixon says they got drunk, and Perry told him to sleep in the guest house. “He told me to give him a goodnight hug and as I did, he abruptly and forcefully pulled down my underwear and groped my bare ass,” Dixon claims. “When I tried to pull my underwear back up, he grabbed my wrists to keep me from putting them back on. I couldn’t believe what was happening.”

Dixon says he feared he was about to be r&ped. “I told him ‘No,’ ‘Stop,’ and ‘I don’t want this,’” he went on. “But he wasn’t stopping. He just told me to relax and let it happen and that he wasn’t going to hurt me.”

The estate, Dixon adds, is “in the middle of nowhere. An Uber cannot drive to the guest house.” To de-escalate the situation, he told Perry he was hungry, prompting him to get pizza. After they ate, Dixon returned to the guest house, locked himself in the bathroom and fell asleep on the floor.

Perry has denied the allegations against him.
