YG Detained Hours Before Verzuz Battle With The Game!

YG was briefly detained yesterday morning, as authorities searched a Burbank property connected to him in the homicide investigation of rapper Drakeo the Ruler.

The Burbank SWAT team assisted the California Highway Patrol in serving the warrant at a commercial building around 6:30 a.m. on July 23. YG, whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, was present during the search and released afterward without being arrested. Authorities have not disclosed whether investigators recovered anything.

Drakeo, born Darrell Wayne Caldwell Jr., was fatally stabbed backstage at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival in December 2021. The 28-year-old had been scheduled to perform at the Los Angeles event, whose lineup also included YG, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and 50 Cent.

Drakeo’s family later filed a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against the festival’s promoters, alleging inadequate security.

“Mr. Caldwell was lynched by 40 to 60 people,” family attorney James Bryant said at the time. “The world lost an amazing artist, a beautiful human being, a father.”

YG has denied having any role in Drakeo’s death and recently addressed the accusations in his music.

The search happened hours before YG faced off against fellow Compton rapper The Game in a Verzuz event celebrating West Coast hip-hop.
