Tom Cruise reportedly expected cheers after his World Cup final speech. Instead, embarrassed when viewers mocked the carefully planned appearance online.

The Mission: Impossible star, 64, addressed fans before Spain faced Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. During his remarks, Cruise celebrated the tournament’s 48 competing nations and spoke about the joy, hope and memorable performances seen throughout the competition.

He closed by asking fans to “celebrate a tournament that brought the world together.”

Some viewers reportedly joked that Cruise sounded like he was leading a motivational event, while others said they wanted a more energetic introduction to the match.

“Tom genuinely believed this was going to be the moment everyone talked about,” an insider told Naughty But Nice. “He takes complete control of everything he does, and he thought this speech would steal the show. Seeing people laugh instead of cheer was humiliating.”

The report claims Cruise worked closely with FIFA producers and went over each line before the broadcast. Another source called him “the ultimate perfectionist” and said he hoped to deliver a “cinematic moment.”

Those around the actor reportedly believe the backlash has bruised him without changing his approach.

“His ego has taken a hit, but Tom doesn’t quit,” a source said.
