Stefon Diggs Keeps Attention on Football While Facing Felony Charge

Stefon Diggs is keeping his focus on football as he faces legal charges connected to an alleged incident earlier this month.

The New England Patriots wide receiver addressed reporters on Friday for the first time since the charges became public, making it clear he would not comment on the case itself.

“It’s definitely an open case, so I can’t even say anything about it,” Diggs said, calling the situation “a very emotional time.” He added that he was “taken back by some things that’s been going on,” but remained open to answering questions related to the team’s upcoming game.

Diggs, 31, is facing a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from a Dec. 2 incident, according to police. The Patriots said in a statement that Diggs “categorically denies the allegations” and added, “We support Stefon.”

Defensive tackle Christian Barmore, who is also dealing with a separate misdemeanor assault and battery charge, echoed a similar stance when speaking publicly. “I’m focused on Miami and playing football,” he said repeatedly.

Both players suited up for Sunday’s regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Mike Vrabel said the organization is taking the allegations seriously but is allowing the legal process to unfold. “I don’t think we have to jump to any sort of conclusions right now,” Vrabel said.

Diggs, who leads the Patriots in receiving this season, said he remains locked in. “You band together and lean on your brothers,” he said. “I just got to roll with the punches.”
