Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo is fighting back following her arrest for fraud and claims it was “illegal.”
In newly filed court papers obtained by Us Weekly, Wendy’s attorneys argue the case should be dismissed due to “defects in the charging document.” They also want the court to suppress specific evidence and statements, claiming investigators conducted an “unlawful search or seizure” and engaged in “illegal interception” of private communications.
“Any statements or confessions attributed to Dr. Osefo were unlawfully obtained and must be excluded,” her attorney wrote in the motion.
On October 9, the Bravolebrity and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were and indicted by a grand jury on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, and making false statements to police. They were later released on $50,000 bond.
Prosecutors allege the pair falsely reported a break-in at their home in April 2024 while vacationing in Jamaica. Authorities say the Osefos claimed several designer items had been stolen, but investigators later found those same items inside their home. Security cameras reportedly showed no movement during the time of the alleged burglary.
Wendy’s legal team is also asking for her trial to be separated from her husband’s case, demanding full access to the prosecution’s evidence, including witness names, police reports, and any information about confidential informants.
A spokesperson for the couple has said they “appreciate the concern and support” from friends and fans, adding that they “remain confident the truth will come out in court.”
