Bozoma Saint John says Tina Knowles briefly had her eye on Keely Watson before realizing he was already off the market.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 49, told PEOPLE that she and a group of friends were looking through Watson’s Instagram after his nephew suggested setting them up. Among the friends weighing in was Knowles.
“Ms. Tina, she’s like, ‘Well, I date uncles,’” Saint John recalled at her recent watch party. “I was like, ‘You better move. I was here first. This is my uncle. You get out of here!’”
Boz said she initially shut down the idea of dating Watson when his nephew first brought it up during a gathering at the home he shares with artist Harmonia Rosales.
“I was like, ‘I’m not going to date your uncle. Do I look like I date uncles?’” she said. “Do you see me? Really? This is insulting.”
Boz says she agreed to take a look at Watson’s social media profile before making a final decision.
“Ms. Tina, Beyoncé’s mom, was in the group, and everybody was giving their opinions,” she explained.
Months later, Knowles met Watson in person for the first time at the Wicked premiere and approved of the relationship.
“She was like, ‘Yeah, that was good,’” the reality star went on. “So it feels very full circle.”
Bozoma and Watson announced their engagement earlier this year after months of dating.
