Keefe D Blamed Cops in 1998 Before Later Saying His Nephew Shot Tupac

Keefe D once told federal agents he had no idea who shot Tupac Shakur, years before claiming his own nephew fired the fatal bullets.

Jurors heard about that contradiction Wednesday during Duane “Keefe D” Davis’ murder trial, when former FBI agent Wade Lee testified about a 1998 interview with Davis.

Lee said he and another agent questioned Davis while investigating alleged drug trafficking and gang activity. Davis was already a person of interest in Shakur’s 1996 killing.

According to the FBI report, Davis spoke about the Las Vegas fight that happened hours before the shooting, when Shakur and Suge Knight were involved in an attack on Davis’ nephew Orlando Anderson. Davis did not tell agents Anderson was the gunman.

When asked who might have killed Shakur, Davis instead blamed Compton police officers he claimed worked with Knight and Reggie Wright Jr.

A decade later, Davis gave investigators a different account. In a 2008 interview, he said Anderson fired from the back seat of a white Cadillac while Davis rode in front.

Davis repeated that version in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” writing that the earlier beating “gave us the ultimate green light to do something.”

Prosecutors say Davis planned the retaliation and armed the shooter. His attorney Michael Sanft has called their case “fiction.”

Davis has pleaded not guilty.
