Federal drug agents are now reportedly involved in the investigation into Hayden Panettiere’s sudden death at 36.
TMZ reported that the Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting with parallel investigations into the actress’ death after she was found unresponsive Sunday at an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina.
Panettiere was in cardiac arrest when first responders arrived, according to authorities. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead.
Preliminary autopsy findings showed no signs of trauma contributing to her death. Officials have not announced an official cause.

A police report said Panettiere’s on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother Zach called 911 after finding her unresponsive. Hickerson later gave investigators a bag containing medication Panettiere had allegedly been taking.
Authorities also searched the residence following her death.
Panettiere had spoken publicly about her past struggles with alcohol and opioids. Weeks before her death, Panettiere also reflected on making difficult choices for her daughter, Kaya, while seeking help.
“I know she’s safe,” Panettiere said of Kaya living with her father, Wladimir Klitschko. “She has an incredible life.”
Panettiere is survived by her daughter.
