HelloFresh Drops Thai Coconut Milk Amid Monkey Labor Allegations

Tiffany Brockworth |

Meal kit provider HelloFresh will no longer sell coconut milk from Thailand after PETA accused coconut farms in the country of using monkey labor.

“We do not tolerate any form of animal abuse in our supply chain,” the company said in a statement obtained by Axios. “Out of an abundance of caution we will not be placing orders for coconut milk from Thailand.”

HelloFresh joins several other major companies that have rejected Thai coconut products over recent years. Walmart, and Costco are among the name that has halted sales of Chaokoh coconut milk.

PETA claims two of HelloFresh’s suppliers in Thailand used the labor of exploited monkeys.

Peta’s senior vice-president Jason Baker told Guardian: “HelloFresh’s decision will help protect monkeys from being kidnapped, chained, and whipped in the coconut trade. HelloFresh is helping Peta push the Thai coconut industry and government away from using and abusing monkeys.”
