Dr. Fauci, the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, tested positive for the COVID-19.
Fauci has been vaccinated and has been doubled boosted.
Fauci will self-isolate and work from his home. Sources say he has not recently been in close contact with Biden or other senior government officials.
“Dr. Fauci will follow the COVID-19 guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and medical advice from his physician and return to the NIH when he tests negative,” the NIH added in the statement.
Fauci will still testify at a Senate health panel this morning about the federal government‘s coronavirus response.
“Dr. Fauci has asked to participate in the hearing remotely and Chair [Patty] Murray will accommodate him, assuming he continues to feel well enough to participate. Chair Murray also wishes him a speedy recovery,” said a Democratic committee aide.
Fauci recently said that he would not have continued to serve in his role if Trump had been reelected.
