A$AP Rocky is being accused of using AI to copy a seven-year-old video for his latest music release.
The controversy centers on a six-second scene in the rapper’s “Shroom Clouds” music video, where he appears to tumble through a colorful, swirling landscape.
Visual effects artist Cache Bunny claims the sequence was taken from a 2019 project created with filmmaker Ari Fararooy and parkour athlete Jason Paul.
Paul told PetaPixel he was stunned to see the similarities.
“When I thought about AI stealing my job one day, I was worried about those damn Boston Dynamics robots that keep getting better at parkour, not rappers,” he joked.
The athlete explained that it took an afternoon to film the original footage before Cache Bunny transformed it with visual effects. Despite the alleged copying, Paul said he holds no personal grudge against Rocky.
“I love the dude’s music,” he said, adding that he wishes the creators had been compensated.
Not everyone was happy about it.
“I can’t understand why they didn’t just reach out to license the clip, or make their own version inspired by it,” Cache Bunny wrote on Instagram.
Rocky has not publicly addressed the accusations, and Paul is considering his options.
