Drake is no longer facing a copyright lawsuit over his hit song “Janice STFU” after a music producer who accused him of stealing the chorus abruptly dropped the case.
Aviel Hirschfield, a 33-year-old Oregon musician who previously earned a songwriting credit on Beyoncé’s “Heated,” voluntarily dismissed his federal lawsuit less than two weeks after filing it.
The sudden reversal comes after Drake’s representatives fiercely denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit “manufactured and baseless.”

Hirschfield claimed he wrote the chorus after hearing Swedish singer Lykke Li’s 2011 song “I Follow Rivers” while driving to Seattle. According to his complaint, the lyrics he created eventually appeared on Drake’s “Janice STFU” without his permission or proper credit.
A representative for Hirschfield initially defended the allegations.
“This song was written specifically for Drake using music provided to [Hirschfield] that was created by Drake’s producers,” the representative told Rolling Stone.
Both musicians received songwriting credits on Beyoncé’s 2022 track “Heated” from her Grammy-winning album Renaissance.
Despite the producer’s initial confidence, the case ended before a court could determine whether his claims had merit.
The reason for the dismissal remains unclear, and no settlement has been publicly confirmed.
