Selena Gomez is blaming heavy nicotine vaping for changes to her voice, revealing she has quit the habit and warning fans not to make the same mistake.
“It’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice,” the 34-year-old singer said in a video posted to her Instagram Story on Sunday.
“Nicotine is so hard to quit,” she admitted while encouraging followers who are struggling with the habit to keep trying.
The Only Murders in the Building actress also addressed people who have criticized or noticed the changes to her famous voice.
“I’m not going to be able to change my voice,” she said, explaining that anyone bothered by the way she sounds can choose not to listen.
Selena Gomez opens up about how vaping nicotine changed her voice: “I’m not gonna be able to change my voice. Nicotine is so hard to quit… It’s just not worth it. […] I’m really excited because I stopped, and I just hope I can keep it up.” https://t.co/w4euexYK51

Although Gomez is relieved to have stopped vaping, she acknowledged that remaining nicotine-free is an ongoing challenge.
“But I know if you are going through something, you can get through it too,” she told fans. “It sucks.”
The admission follows an Instagram Live conversation last December, when Gomez answered questions about her voice and explained that her throat occasionally swells on the inside.
Gomez has shared other personal health experiences over the years, including her lupus diagnosis, 2017 kidney transplant and bipolar disorder.
The singer is currently gearing up for the December 8 return of Only Murders in the Building, which moves to London for its sixth season.
