Mona isn’t backing down from her belief that Cardi B’s lighter skin helped her career, even after the Grammy-winning rapper hopped online to push back against the claims on social media.
The podcaster, known as Don’t Call Me White Girl, defended her position on The Joe Budden Podcast, insisting she was addressing inequality rather than doubting Cardi’s talent.
“Part of the reason why she’s there is in my opinion because she’s light,” Mona said.
The beef ignited after Mona slammed an older video in which Cardi discussed her career success and the importance of hard work. Cardi then issued a statement on X defending her accomplishments, arguing that her complexion wasn’t enough to convince record labels she could become a star.
Mona maintained that both arguments could be true.
“I know I’m talented. I know I’m funny,” she said while discussing her own experiences. “I know part of the reason why I made it here is because I have the complexion for the connection.”
“I’m not speaking of her talent. I’m talking about this country,” Mona responded after some of her cohosts seemingly sided with Cardi.
Despite the disagreement, Mona insisted she had no personal issue with Cardi.
“I’ve never even been in the press saying anything negative about her. I love her,” Mona added.
