Chris Rock says he has been free from pornography for about six years after struggling with an addiction he believes contributed to the end of his marriage.
The comedian, 61, discussed his personal struggles in a new GQ Men of the Year interview, admitting that his behavior played a role in his divorce from Malaak Compton-Rock.
“I was not a great husband,” Rock acknowledged.
The couple divorced in 2016 after 20 years of marriage and share two daughters, Lola Simone and Zahra.
Rock reflected on how fame affected his judgment, comparing his former mindset to superheroes discovering their abilities.
“Every Marvel movie, man or woman, they have to test their powers,” he said.
“They’re a–holes… then they crash down because they realize they’re not God.”
Rock acknowledged being “severely humbled” by the consequences of his actions. He revealed that the divorce also contributed to his extended absence from filmmaking, and the comedian returned to touring extensively while working to get his coins back up and recover from the breakup.
“Nobody has a successful divorce,” he explained.
His upcoming comedy-drama Misty Green will be his directing debut after a 12-year gap following Top Five in 2014.
