“He’s So Convincing”: Shia LaBeouf’s Critics Speak Out

Shia LaBeouf’s latest legal trouble has renewed scrutiny from people who say they have seen a troubling pattern in his behavior.

After the 39-year-old actor was ordered to enter substance abuse treatment following his recent New Orleans arrest, sources who have known him for years claim the mandate may not lead to meaningful change.

LaBeouf was charged with misdemeanor battery after an altercation during Mardi Gras celebrations and agreed to enroll in rehab, undergo drug testing, and post bond.

Speaking to Page Six, insiders describe him as “a master manipulator” who is “very adept at playing the role of a good guy in recovery trying to be a better self.”

One source alleged that he is “so good at convincing people and potential partners” that they believe he has changed.

LaBeouf has previously spoken about his struggles.

In a recent interview, he admitted, “It’s not nice to hurt people ever. It’s lame. People got hurt. I got to deal with that. It was on me.” He added, “Definitely. Yeah. One thousand percent,” when asked if he takes responsibility.

The actor has sought treatment in the past and has publicly discussed sobriety. His current case is ongoing, with a court date set later this month.
