Carrot Top is showing signs of improvement in the hospital, with his representative confirming the comedian is awake and breathing without assistance after a reported suicide attempt.
The 61-year-old entertainer, born Scott Thompson, remains under medical supervision as family and loved ones stay close.
“He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve,” rep Jami Schlicher told Page Six. She said humor is still very much part of Thompson’s recovery, noting that he has been sharing “moments of humor with the medical staff caring for him.”
Fans have also supported Thompson during his hospitalization.
“Many messages from fans have been shared with Scott,” Schlicher said, including accounts from people who said his comedy helped them during difficult times. She said hearing those stories has meant “a great deal to him.”
TMZ previously reported, citing sources, that Carrot Top attempted suicide Friday in the Las Vegas area before being taken to a hospital. Schlicher confirmed he was hospitalized but did not publicly discuss the circumstances. Carrot Top’s Las Vegas shows at the Luxor were canceled amid his hospitalization.
Before his hospitalization, court records showed the comedian was involved in a dispute with musician Brian Evans over an alleged sex tape and a proposed $500,000 settlement.
Evans later denied ever threatening to post a video in exchange for payment.
“I never threatened, ever, to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement,” Evans told TMZ, adding that the video in question “was deleted a long time ago in accordance with the prior settlement.”
Evans also expressed sympathy for Thompson following his hospitalization, saying he was “sorry that Scott apparently did something to hurt himself” and rejecting any suggestion that he was responsible. “It’s not my fault that Scott did what he did,” Evans continued. “
He survived and I am glad about that.” He added that he does not consider Thompson “a bad person” and said his intention is not to “bring this guy down,” noting that Thompson “still has a big life ahead of him.”
