Todd: Kandi Makes The Money – She Gotta Pay Mortgage & ALL Kids Bills!

Tiffany Brockworth |

The divorce between Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker is quickly shifting from emotional to financial. And now Todd is making it clear that, in his view, this is about fairness.

New court filings viewed by Media Take Out reveal that the biggest fight right now is not just about parenting time. It is about who pays the bills, who stays in the house, and whether prior agreements still stand.

Todd claims that Kandi agreed to cover all of the children’s expenses as well as the household expenses, including the mortgage and other costs tied to their lifestyle. According to his filing, that arrangement was understood between them. Now, as the divorce unfolds, he argues that she should not be allowed to suddenly change course.

In his response, Todd implies that if the roles were reversed, this would not even be a debate. He suggests that when men are the primary financial breadwinners, courts routinely allow women to remain in the marital home with their bills paid, especially when children are involved. In his view, he is simply asking for the same consideration.

Todd maintains that he has been the children’s primary caregiver, particularly while Kandi has been working out of state. He says he has handled their daily routines, school responsibilities, and supervision. Because of that, he believes he should be able to remain in the home rent free while continuing to care for the children.

In other words, Todd’s position is clear. If Kandi has been the primary earner and agreed to handle the financial load, then she should continue doing so, at least on a temporary basis, just as many high earning husbands are required to do in divorce cases.

Kandi, however, tells a very different story.

In her filing, she says she has been carrying the children’s day to day expenses on her own since the separation. She lists childcare, school related costs, medical expenses, and travel among the bills she claims she has been paying. She disputes the idea that Todd has been the sole or primary hands on parent and is asking the court to establish a structured parenting schedule along with temporary child support.

The tension spilled over during the Christmas holiday, according to the filings. Kandi claims she made travel plans for the children to visit New York and gave Todd advance notice. She says she had already paid for the trip when conflict arose. Todd counters that he personally transported the children so they could spend Christmas with her and insists the dispute stemmed from communication issues, not an attempt to block parenting time.

Still, the central issue remains money and control of the home.

Todd has formally asked the court to name him the temporary primary custodial parent. At the same time, he is pushing the argument that the existing financial dynamic should continue. Kandi, on the other hand, is seeking temporary child support and a clearly defined parenting plan.

Both sides acknowledge that if they cannot resolve these matters privately, the judge will need to step in and impose temporary orders.

For now, no ruling has been issued. A status conference or temporary hearing is expected to address these disputes.

But one thing is clear. This divorce is no longer just about who gets what. It is about whether financial expectations change when the woman is the powerhouse earner. And Todd is making it known that he believes equality should cut both ways.
