Timbaland has revealed that his former OxyContin addiction became so severe that he was unknowingly putting his life at risk every day.
The Grammy-winning producer reflected on that period during a recent interview with B High ATL, saying he now views his drug use very differently than he did while he was in the middle of it.
“I ain’t never think about suicide, but then I said, you know what? I was committing suicide every day,” said Timbaland, going on to explain that the pills became part of a dangerous routine while he was also dealing with divorce and other personal struggles.
“I was going through drug addiction… divorce. I was going through a lot,” he continued.
According to the producer, the danger became especially clear when his then-wife saw him stop breathing while he was asleep.
“When you go there and go to them pills, you killing yourself,” he added “I was killing myself slowly or fastly, I don’t know. But God had his hands on me.”
Timbaland has previously said he first turned to pain medication for nerve problems connected to a gunshot wound he suffered as a teenager. His use eventually escalated, and in a 2023 Club Shay Shay interview, he admitted that at the height of his addiction, he was using as much as 160 milligrams of OxyContin a day.
