Suri Cruise has legally changed her name to Suri Noelle, dropping the famous surname she shared with her estranged father, Tom Cruise, according to public records.
The 20-year-old registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pa., under the name Suri Noelle in October 2024, during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University. Pennsylvania residents are required to use their legal names when registering, court officials told the outlet.
It remains unclear when the change became official. No request was filed in Allegheny County, suggesting the paperwork may have been completed in New York before Suri moved to Pittsburgh for college. Name-change records in New York may be sealed.
Suri had already begun using Noelle publicly. The name appeared in the program for her June 2024 graduation from LaGuardia High School in New York City. Noelle is the middle name of her mother, Katie Holmes.
A source previously told Page Six that the choice was a way for Suri to show “praise for her mother,” establish her “own identity” and “start fresh at college.”
Suri is now studying musical theater at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama. She recently appeared in a staged reading of Cosmic Microwave Background and is preparing to perform in Midsummer!, a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Holmes, 47, and Cruise, 64, welcomed Suri in April 2006. The former couple married later that year and divorced in 2012, with Suri remaining in New York with her mother.
