Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was fatally shot beside him, Suge Knight says he still will not help prosecutors send another man to prison.
Knight, 61, told ABC News from prison that he does not intend to cooperate in the upcoming murder trial of Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the only person charged in connection with Shakur’s 1996 killing.
“They make me come there against my will, if Keefe D’s lawyers bring me there, it don’t look good for him. If the prosecution brings me there, it don’t look good for them,” Knight said. “Leave me out of it.”
Shakur was riding in a BMW driven by Knight on Sept. 7, 1996, when gunfire erupted near the Las Vegas Strip. Knight was injured. Shakur died six days later. Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty to murder. Authorities accuse him of helping organize the shooting following a casino fight involving Shakur and Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson.
Knight, now serving a 28-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter stemming from an unrelated 2015 hit-and-run, could be called as a witness.
“I’m not there to help [Davis], and I’m damn not there to hurt him,” Knight said.
Knight also dismissed Davis’ attempts to distance himself from earlier public statements about the case.
“Everything he said and talked about, he already told on himself,” Knight he continued. “That’s my brother,” he said.
