Stephen A. Smith says that he’s not shutting down rumors that he could run for president in 2028.
“Time to stop messing around. Life is great. Especially at ESPN/Disney. Hate the thought of being a politician. But sick of this mess. So I’m officially leaving all doors open,” Smith wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The sports commentator has been very vocal when it comes to the world of politics but upset fans after saying that he felt pressured to vote for Kamala Harris and that he actually wanted to side with Donald Trump.

So I’m officially leaving all doors open https://t.co/n6BmAOKjiv
In January 2025, during an appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he said that he felt like a “damn fool” for voting for Harris in the November election, adding that that Harris had not participated in a legitimate primary.
After Trump seemingly created the economy, Smith appeared to switch sides again, going at them in a rant last week.
“Wait a minute, you’re a Republican voter out there. I thought your party was the party that preached about the Constitution. I thought your party was the party that said, ‘We’re not violating, we’re not circumventing, we’re not slithering our way through to get what we want,’” he said on the livestream.
Should Stephen A. Smith be the next president of the United States?
