An outpouring of love has followed James Van Der Beek’s death, with fans and famous friends rallying around his family in a very real way. A GoFundMe launched by people close to the late actor has surpassed $1.2 million, offering financial support to his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children as they navigate life after his passing.
Van Der Beek died on Feb. 11 at age 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer. The fundraising page quickly exceeded its original $550,000 goal and has since continued to climb, prompting organizers to raise the target to $1.3 million.
Kimberly shared the fundraiser on social media alongside a brief but emotional message. “My friends created this link to support me and my children during this time,” she wrote. “With gratitude and a broken heart.”
The page explains that the family has faced mounting expenses tied to years of medical care. “In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future,” the description reads, noting that the prolonged fight against cancer left their finances strained.
Donations have poured in from fans and celebrities alike. Zoe Saldaña reportedly committed to monthly contributions, while Lyn Lear donated $5,000. Others who gave include Julie Plec and Cameo co-founder Martin Blencowe.
The message concludes with thanks to supporters, adding that every gift helps the family “find hope and security as they rebuild their lives.”
