Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., was celebrating a new romance with a nurse 36 years his junior earlier this year, months before becoming the subject of a reported investigation involving alleged child sexual abuse material.
The 82-year-old shared details about his relationship with Rio Canedo, then 46, in a March interview with the Daily Mail, saying they met while he was receiving medical treatment in the Philippines.
Thomas underwent a leg amputation and had been living in Cebu with his son, Thomas Markle Jr.
“I never expected to find joy and happiness again at my age,” he told the outlet. “Haters will hate,” he continued. “But, to be honest, I don’t give a damn. Life is for living.”
Months later, Thomas Jr., 60, reportedly contacted police after allegedly finding hundreds, potentially thousands, of child sexual abuse images among his father’s belongings.
According to The Sun, the suspected material was discovered inside storage boxes containing family keepsakes and electronic devices.
“When I found this material I was horrified and I had no option but to report my dad,” Thomas Jr. said.
Authorities in the Philippines are reportedly investigating the allegations.
Thomas Sr. has not publicly commented on the claims.
