Cecily Strong and Ego Nwodim are calling out Shane Gillis after the comedian described women at the gym as “whores” during his Saturday Night Live monologue.
Gillis, who returned to host the NBC sketch comedy series last weekend, joked that women’s revealing workout clothes caught him off guard after he spent time away from the gym.
“Look, I’m sorry. There’s no other way to describe it,” he told viewers.
Strong responded by posting a photo of her colorful workout gear on Instagram, joking, “Might sell sex on the way not sure.”
Nwodim delivered her own comeback, sharing a gym selfie captioned “whore reporting for duty.”
The Schitt’s Creek actor Dan Levy posted a video condemning the joke and urging men to challenge misogynistic behavior.
“Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists,” he said.
Behind the scenes, SNL graphic designer Jessie Leo publicly questioned the workplace culture after the joke aired.
“How am I ever supposed to feel comfortable going to NBC HR,” she wrote in part, criticizing the decision to approve the material.
Gillis was fired from SNL in 2019 over resurfaced offensive remarks, then returned as a guest host.
NBC and SNL have remained silent about the backlash.
No Shane Gillis, women aren’t "dressing like whores" at the gym. You’re thinking like a rapist, Calling women in shorts “whores” is Epstein rape misogyny culture. Reminder that the rapists are the problem. Not the fucking shorts.

Does Shane Gillis have any jokes aside from calling women whores and weak people gay?

The Shane Gillis thing is real simple: Men saying women in shorts are "whores" is literally the first step on the journey to men typing "free pussy" in the group chat. It ain’t hard to figure out. You are fucking dense if you don’t see it. We can evolve now. Thanks.

shane gillis calling women whores for wearing shorts and people claiming he’s just "saying what people think" isn’t comedy. it’s just showing how you see women!
