On a recent episode of Sister Wives, Christine Brown revealed that she and her ex-husband, Kody Brown, are also distantly related by blood.
The discovery came up during a conversation with her new husband, David Woolley.
“I knew growing up that I would have to marry a convert because I was literally related to everybody in the church,” Christine said, “I did marry a convert, but I was still related to him too.”
Christine clarified the surprising detail soon after.
“Yeah, I’m related to Kody,” she said, explaining that they are “third cousins once removed.” She added that the connection did not make their spiritual union void. “Third cousins once removed is fully legal,” she noted, before adding, “Polygamy is not legal.”
The revelation left Woolley momentarily speechless. “Wow,” he replied during the exchange.
Christine’s former sister-in-law, Janelle Brown, also weighed in, explaining that the relationship was extremely distant. “It wasn’t the kind of relationship where you’d see each other at family reunions,” she said. “But in such a small community, people would joke about being cousins.”
Christine and Kody were spiritually married from 1994 to 2021 and share six children.
