Shannon Sharpe is opening up about the fallout from a turbulent chapter that upended his career and personal life earlier this year.
After a legal dispute with a former romantic partner led to his exit from ESPN and stalled business talks for his popular podcasts, Sharpe largely stayed silent. The lawsuit, which included allegations of sexual assault, was ultimately settled quietly, but not before Sharpe lost his role at the network, and Nightcap and Club Shay Shay’s momentum dramatically decreased.
This week, the Hall of Fame tight end spoke candidly on Nightcap while reacting to the sudden firing and arrest of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore.
“Six, seven months ago, I went through something very similar,” Sharpe said. “So I know what that storm is like. And unless you’ve been in it, you don’t know what you would do until you’re in it.”
Sharpe acknowledged the embarrassment of having details of his private life become public, though he did not discuss specifics of the lawsuit or settlement.
“I don’t hate anybody, but there are a few people I have a strong dislike for,” he said. “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on any of them.”
He also reflected on how the incident affected his relationships. “There were some days where all I had was my family,” Sharpe said. “That was it.”
Looking ahead, Sharpe sounded somber but resolute. “Everything that you worked a lifetime for,” he said. “You start stacking all back over again.”
