Mary Bonnet is looking back on season 9 of Selling Sunset and feels the version of her that made it to screen was incomplete.
“They edited it. I really got a bad edit this time,” Mary tells US Weekly, adding that viewers “didn’t see everything that was going on.”
Much of her stress came after her home was robbed, an experience that left her shaken and sleep-deprived.
“I was watching the cameras every night. Our neighbors were getting robbed too. My reactions were justified. They just didn’t show what it was,” she says. Her husband, Romain Bonnet, agrees. “There was so much outside that has not been shown. It is sad for people because it is not the whole story,” he says.
Season 9 also highlighted the growing distance between Mary and Chelsea Lazkani. Fans accused the show of discriminating against Chelsea, the only dark skinned woman in the cast, and argued online that she was treated unfairly by production.
Mary says her own issues with Chelsea were fueled by moments she believes were orchestrated, including the flower delivery that aired after her robbery. “I didn’t think things were genuine,” she shares. “Production orchestrated that and I was mad at production for doing that to me right after the robbery.”
Their tension escalated during a group dinner where Brett Oppenheim asked the cameras to stop filming. Mary hints that far more happened than what viewers saw. “It would take a lot for Chelsea and I to be close again,” she says.
Mary says she has been working on remaining grounded as she moves forward. “I’ve taken steps to be true to myself and handle things better,” she explains. “You cannot control all circumstances, but I am trying.”
Viewers have been threatening to boycott the show if Chelsea is not treated with more respect or if she is let go from the show.
