Russell Brand has been convicted of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a four-week trial in London.
The 51-year-old actor and comedian was found guilty Thursday, Nov. 5, at Southwark Crown Court after jurors deliberated for two days. He was acquitted of two additional rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Brand, known for his roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, denied all seven charges involving six women.
The convictions stem from incidents between 2004 and 2009, including the rape of a woman at his London home and sexual assaults involving women who worked in television and radio.
Before the verdicts were announced, Brand reportedly told his wife, Laura Gallacher, “I love you.”
Judge Joel Bennathan ordered Brand into custody ahead of his sentencing on Monday, Nov. 9, warning that a “custodial sentence of some length” would follow.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy accused Brand of using his celebrity to exploit women.
“I hope this conviction sends a clear message that no one is above the law, no matter how famous or powerful they may be,” said Furphy.
The women came forward following a 2023 investigation by Channel 4 and The Times into allegations against Brand. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that its investigation remains ongoing, with two additional women making rape allegations against the entertainer.
