Rick Ross Dodges Felony Strangulation Charge as Prosecutors Cite ‘Insufficient Evidence’

Rick Ross is no longer facing a felony strangulation charge after Florida prosecutors dropped the allegation, citing “insufficient evidence” nearly a month after his arrest.

The 50-year-old rapper, whose real name is William Roberts II, still faces a misdemeanor domestic battery charge stemming from accusations made by a woman he was living with in Miami Beach.

According to court records, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office dismissed the felony charge on Thursday.

The woman told investigators Ross attacked her during an argument about suspected infidelity on Aug. 28. In a police report, she alleged the Grammy-nominated artist struck her multiple times, choked her using her shirt collar, and slammed her against a wall.

She told police she eventually escaped and returned to retrieve her belongings after Ross had left.

The “Hustlin'” rapper surrendered to Miami Beach police on Oct. 1 and was released on bail hours later.

Ross has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his attorney said Friday that he intends to continue fighting the remaining allegation.

The Maybach Music Group founder has previously faced legal trouble, including a 2015 assault case in Georgia. He entered a no-contest plea in 2017 and was later exonerated under the state’s first-time offender program.
