Mary Cosby is responding after a new TLC docuseries leveled serious allegations against the The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star and her church.
On Jan. 4, Cosby addressed the controversy for the first time following the release of TLC’s three-part series The Cult of the Real Housewife, which centers on claims that the Utah-based pastor runs a cult through her church, Faith Temple Pentecostal. The series includes accusations of financial exploitation, emotional and physical abuse, coerced labor and alleged extramarital affairs involving Cosby and her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., who is also her step-grandfather.
Former congregants and family members appear in the docuseries describing what they say was a pattern of intense pressure to give money. One ex-member claimed emergency meetings were frequently called to demand large donations. “The worst announcement you could hear was, ‘Don’t leave. We need an emergency saints meeting,’” the person said. “You knew it was going to be about money.”
Cosby’s cousin, Dan Cosby, also alleged she had an affair with church member Cameron Williams, who previously appeared on the Bravo series. Another former member said Williams told him directly, “Me and Mary had an affair.”
Cosby did not address the claims directly but shared a message on Instagram alongside photos from the show. “#godfirst #love #you #blessed #don’t believe the lies,” she wrote. “Happy Sunday!!”
