Karen Huger is opening up about her life after jail time and says the experience changed her in ways she never expected.
The Karen Huger appeared on Sherri, where she spoke publicly for the first time since serving six months in county jail following her DUI conviction. Addressing rumors that swirled during her absence, Karen made one thing clear. “I was not in some cushy place,” she said. “I was on a metal bed facing a cold cement wall.”
Karen did not shy away from accountability. “No one should drink and drive,” she said. “I was wrong. I’m grateful no one was hurt. I could have died.” She described jail as both humbling and necessary. “Your liberties are gone,” she explained. “If you don’t fight it, it can actually empower you and help you heal.”
During the interview, Karen described herself at the time as a “functional addict.” “I knew when to take the pills with the alcohol,” she said. “It was never on camera, but I’m not proud of that.”
She also reflected on seeing her children through a glass partition during visits. “That was one of the hardest moments of my life,” she said.
As for her future on The Real Housewives of Potomac, Karen remains uncertain. “Whether I return or not, that’s to be seen,” she said. “I’m the same Karen. Just clean.”
