Fugees rapper Pras has been found guilty of political conspiracy and now faces up to 20 years in prison.
The rapper was found guilty on 10 counts, including conspiracy to defraud the US, witness tampering and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government.
Pras’ attorney vowed to fight the verdict.
“We are extremely disappointed in that result but are very, very confident in the ultimate outcome of this case,” his attorney, David Kenner, told reporters. “If we do move to a sentencing hearing I remain very confident we will certainly appeal this case. This is not over.”
Prakazrel “Pras” Michel was accused of funneling money for Jho Low into Barack Obama’s 2012 election campaign. Low is a Malaysian businessman who allegedly stole billions of dollars from a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB.
Low has so far evaded capture and is on the run from the police, so he may never face justice.
