Fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta were caught off guard after Porsha Williams became the subject of an in-flight incident during her trip home from BravoCon in Las Vegas.
The television star, 44, was seen leaving a Delta Airlines flight on Sunday, November 16, while law enforcement stood by at the Las Vegas airport.
Williams’ attorney, Joe Habachy, later shared more context, telling PEOPLE that Williams chose to step off the aircraft after another passenger allegedly targeted her in an aggressive, unprovoked verbal attack.
According to Habachy, the individual involved later made claims that conflicted with what several witnesses observed. He noted that federal officials routinely assess incidents that occur in flight in order to determine whether any violations took place.
“The passenger then proceeded to make false allegations that were in direct conflict with observations from several eyewitnesses,” Habachy stated. “As with any incident occurring aboard an aircraft, federal authorities are required to conduct an investigation involving all parties to determine what, if any, offenses occurred.”
Habachy said Williams plans to fully cooperate with investigators and believes that the other passenger should ultimately face charges.
A spokesperson for the FBI Atlanta confirmed to PEOPLE that the agency is reviewing the encounter and assessing whether it warrants federal action. Delta Airlines also told TMZ that two passengers were involved and that the plane continued to its scheduled arrival in Atlanta.
