One of the defendants in the high-profile case connected to Pooh Shiesty nearly walked free this week, only for prosecutors to step in.
Kedarius Waters, who prosecutors describe as a close associate of the rapper, appeared in federal court in northern Texas on April 27. A magistrate judge ruled that Waters could be released on a personal recognizance bond ahead of trial.
Soon after, prosecutors appealed the ruling, putting the release on hold.
Waters remains in custody while the appeal moves forward. The same pattern reportedly followed bond rulings involving co-defendants Big30 and Lontrell Williams Sr.
In court filings after the hearing, prosecutors said Waters should stay detained because of “the seriousness of the defendant’s offense conduct, his criminal history, and the potential danger that the defendant poses to the community.”

They said additional written arguments are expected by May 5.
Charging documents refer to Waters by the nickname “KD” and describe him as Pooh Shiesty’s alleged “right-hand man.” He is accused of playing a central role in the robbery and kidnapping of Gucci Mane and several others at a Dallas recording studio earlier this year.
Prosecutors allege victims were threatened at gunpoint and forced to sign paperwork releasing Pooh Shiesty from his deal with 1017 Records.
After the hearing, Waters appeared to post on Instagram from jail.
“Physically I’m standing tall was taught don’t let em see me sweat!” the caption read.
