Omarion is speaking out after Mario questioned his vocal consistency, saying he no longer feels respected by his fellow R&B star.
During a recent interview on Sway in the Morning, Omarion was asked about the ongoing debate in R&B circles over “who can sing and who can’t.”
“Which is a wild conversation, because we’re supposed to be here to uplift,” he said. “I think when people critique artists, they gotta look at themselves, as well. Art is art. Also, we’re at different levels. Our experience, the things that are occurring in our lives. That’s not to make any excuse, but I think those are important factors.”

When host Sway followed up by mentioning Omarion’s previous Verzuz matchup with Mario and asked whether the two might work together one day, Omarion made it clear that collaboration isn’t likely.
“I’m not sure. I don’t think so,” he replied. “I think that, for me, it’s all about respect. I think you can have your opinion, but the moment I feel like there’s no respect there, I’m cool. I’d rather step back. I don’t think there’s respect there, especially for somebody like me who has been doing it before him. It’s not by chance, it’s by hard work. It’s true.”
Omarion’s remarks come shortly after Mario appeared on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast last month, where he was asked to rate the vocals of several R&B performers, including Omarion, Chris Brown, and Bryson Tiller.
“Omarion, it be hit or miss for me sometimes,” Mario said at the time.
