Nick Cannon is opening up about how seriously he takes his mental health.
During a recent conversation with Iyanla Vanzant on his Counsel Culture Show, Cannon revealed that therapy is a major part of his weekly routine.
“I’m in therapy four times a week,” he said.
When Vanzant asked about his motivation, Cannon explained that he first began attending therapy while studying for his master’s degree in psychology.
“Part of the work was to make sure you actually spend time in therapy, but it’s been some years now, and I yearn for it,” he said. Cannon admitted he initially approached the process with confidence, believing he was there simply to learn.
“I first went in like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just doing this to pick your brain and understand the process. I’m good,’” said Cannon.
“Personally, for me, those hours every week, I call it waste management,” Cannon shared. “It’s where I get to just go and let it all out,” adding that therapy gives him space to process emotions without pressure to solve everything immediately.
“To verbalize, to have the opportunity to ponder and sit and sometimes cry, sometimes just breathe,” he said. “I always call it my spiritual bandwidth. I can only take so much before I have to get it all out.”
The father of 12 has previously spoken publicly about therapy. In 2021, he told Entertainment Tonight, “My therapist says I should be celibate.”
