Melody Shari Rodgers found herself behind bars Tuesday morning after surrendering on a warrant stemming from allegations made by her ex-husband, Martell Holt.
The former Love & Marriage: Huntsville personality was charged with third-degree domestic violence and spent about 90 minutes at the Madison County Jail before bonding out, according to information released by her team.
Melody’s publicist said she was notified ahead of time and given the chance to turn herself in rather than be taken into custody unexpectedly.
Now, Melody is fighting the allegations publicly and says the experience has become personal motivation for a proposed change to Alabama law.
“I have endured years of harassment that has affected my family, children, and livelihood,” she said in a statement. “While this is traumatizing, I know that it is far bigger than me.”

Melody said she has been working with lawmakers on legislation that would carry stronger penalties for false police reports that lead to arrests.
“The bill will become a law called the Melody Shari Act,” she continued. “It will make filing a false police report that results in the arrest of an innocent party a felony.”
Melody added, “It will no longer be just a misdemeanor.”
The reality star also said the proposed law would make it easier for people in those cases to pursue punitive damages and seek consequences involving employment and professional licenses.
