Lizzo is being frank about the realities of releasing music in the social media era and says it’s hurting her sales.
While discussing her upcoming album B*tch during a recent livestream, the Grammy-winning singer expressed concerns about how platform algorithms have changed how artists promote projects and reach fans online.
“Ever since the algorithm has been showing us things out of order, baby, there’s no way to successfully promote your album where everyone knows your album is coming,” she said.
Lizzo explained that even direct communication with supporters no longer guarantees visibility, making it increasingly difficult for musicians to build momentum around new releases.
Lizzo talks about how the algorithm is negatively impacting music marketing:

“Ever since the algorithm has been showing us things out of order, there’s no way to successfully promote your album. I have a private page with over 280K people who follow me because they support me… pic.twitter.com/HVzhxN7cOL
Although the singer acknowledged that her fan base continues to support her music, she expressed frustration with having to deal with the constant changes across digital platforms.
“I have a private page with over 280K people who follow me because they support me, because they love me. Even when I post on that page, I’m not hitting their algorithm,” she added.
The singer says that music lovers in 2026 are not always aware when their faves are dropping music.
“There are people who are super viral whose albums just don’t sell as much as their fame. Their albums don’t match the amount of views they have on their posts. And listen, I’m gonna be OK. I’m a big girl, I’m a very successful woman. I have a loyal fan base,” she continued, “I’m saying this to bring awareness to where we’re headed. It is deeply concerning, you guys. Fans are not even aware that their favorite artist is releasing music, and they’re doing everything they need to do to keep up with their favorite artists. They follow them. Something has got to give about this. But you know what? What do I know? I’m just a girl. My album B*tch is coming June 5, and if you didn’t know now, you know.”
