Three upcoming Lionel Richie concerts have been canceled as the singer recovers from a procedure for an irregular heart rhythm.
The 77-year-old music legend underwent treatment for atrial fibrillation, or AFib, after being hospitalized this week, according to his representative.
“Lionel underwent a common procedure for atrial fibrillation (AFib),” the rep told PEOPLE in a statement. “The doctor said everything went perfectly.”
“Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon,” his rep added.

The change affects three dates on his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. Shows scheduled for September 26 in San Francisco, September 30 in Chicago and October 2 in Columbus, Ohio, will no longer take place.
AFib is a condition in which the heart’s upper chambers beat irregularly, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Ablation, one treatment for the condition, uses small areas of scar tissue to interrupt abnormal electrical signals.
The latest development follows a difficult stretch for Lionel. He checked himself into a hospital after an August 29 performance in St. Louis and underwent cardiac testing before returning home. He was later spotted enjoying a night out in Beverly Hills with girlfriend Lisa Parigi.
