Kodak Black scored a legal victory in Florida after a judge dismissed his latest criminal case involving an allegation that he fled from law enforcement.
The 29-year-old rapper, whose real name is Bill Kapri, appeared in Broward court on Tuesday, where a judge granted a defense motion to dismiss a fleeing and eluding charge tied to a February traffic stop.
According to court documents, a Broward Sheriff’s deputy pulled up behind Kapri while he was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee near Northwest 18th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The deputy allegedly asked, “What’s going on boss? You good?” Kapri replied, “fine,” before driving away.
His defense argued that the interaction never became a lawful traffic stop.
“The deputy did not request Kapri’s license, did not request a copy of insurance, did not step away from his patrol vehicle to engage with Kapri or give a lawful order in any meaningful way,” the motion to dismiss stated.
The Pompano Beach native has faced several arrests and court cases in recent years.
Kapri still has a separate case pending in Orange County, where he is accused of drug possession. He has pleaded not guilty and remains out of custody while that case proceeds.
