Collin Gosselin is accusing his mother, Kate Gosselin, of repeated physical abuse and claims the happy family life viewers watched on Jon & Kate Plus 8 was far from the reality.
The 22-year-old opened up about his childhood during a Good Morning America interview on Monday while discussing his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight.
“Simply put, my whole life that I lived was a lie. All the things you see on TV — lies,” Collin told the host. “I couldn’t talk about what went on in the home, and now I finally can,” he added.
Collin alleged that his mother physically abused him on multiple occasions, including an incident in which he claims she restrained him with zip ties and locked him in a basement room, disputing the behavioral issues his mother previously cited when she sent him to a residential facility in 2016.
“I was ‘difficult’ because I was the only one out of my siblings who pushed back against filming,” he claimed.
Collin alleged that his resistance to the cameras threatened his mother’s public image and income. After leaving the facility, he moved in with his father, Jon Gosselin, in 2018.
Now a college student studying finance, Collin said a 2023 independent evaluation found he did not have several diagnoses previously attributed to him.
Kate has previously denied allegations of abuse and called the claims in his memoir “ridiculous” on TikTok in June.
