Ja Rule is working hard to make sure that he distances himself from the upcoming Fyre Festival reboot. Billy McFarland recently announced that he was planning to bring back the events…after serving part of his six year sentence for defrauding investors out of millions of dollars.
Billy pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud in March 2018 for using fake documents to attract investors into giving him money for the scam festival. Ja Rule was one of the founders but avoided any prison time. Billy originally faced up to 20 years in prison.
“I don’t know nothing about it!” he told PEOPLE. “I don’t know nothing about it. I ain’t in it!”
McFarland agreed to pay back the $26 million to his victims. McFarland also pleaded guilty to selling phony tickets to events, cheating his victims out of $100,000.
On Instagram, a follower asked him why he shouldn’t be in jail.
“it’s in the best interest of those I owe for me to be working. people aren’t getting paid back if i sit on the couch and watch tv. and because i served my time,” he responded.
