Gervonta Davis has lost his status as a reigning boxing champion due to his various legal troubles and a prolonged absence from the ring.
The World Boxing Association confirmed that Gervonta Davis, known as Tank, has been stripped of his WBA lightweight world title and designated “Champion in Recess.”
The latest charge stems from accusations made by Davis’ ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, who alleges battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping during an incident on Oct. 27 at a Miami strip club. Police say surveillance video supports her account.
“The investigation determined that Mr. Davis used force to restrain the victim against her will,” said MGPD executive officer Emmanuel Jeanty.
An arrest warrant has been issued, and authorities are working with the U.S. Marshals to locate Davis. Rossel has also filed a civil lawsuit related to the incident.

WBA president Gilberto Mendoza announced the decision over the weekend, citing both inactivity and an active arrest warrant issued by the Miami Gardens Police Department.
Davis has previously faced domestic violence accusations, including a Father’s Day incident that was later dropped. The latest claims led to the cancellation of his planned Netflix boxing match with Jake Paul.
Davis has defended his title only twice in the past three years, with his most recent bout taking place more than 10 months ago. He currently has no fight scheduled. His last title defense ended in a controversial draw against Lamont Roach in March, a bout remembered for Davis taking a knee mid-round. A rematch was discussed but never finalized after new legal allegations surfaced.
