Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, has addressed a viral video appearing to show his wife, Brigitte, slapping him in the face.
Cameras caught a video clip showing a uniformed crew member cracking open the plane door, and then Macron, front and center, suited up and posted in the doorway. But before he could properly address the cameras, Brigitte Macron reached out and shoved him in the face. One hand over his mouth and nose, the other gripping his jaw. Macron tried to shake it off, turning his head like he wasn’t phased, but the second he clocked the cameras, he gave a quick smile, a wave for the press, and he ducked out of frame.
Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of their status. President of France @EmmanuelMacron is the latest victim of gender-based violence. The perpetrator is his wife. We won’t downgrade to playful teasing as the French government alludes!

Later, the power couple touched down side by side, and Macron offered his arm, but Brigitte left him hanging.
He claims they were just joking around.
His office added, “It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around. It’s a moment of complicity. It was all that was needed to give ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.”
French President Emmanuel Macron has denied any “domestic dispute” with his wife Brigitte after photos of his arrival in Vietnam stirred comments on social media. “I was just joking with my wife,” he says.
