Former NBA Star Patrick Beverley Accused Of Assaulting His 15-Year Old Sister

Former NBA player Patrick Beverley was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, after authorities say he assaulted his teenage sister during a late-night confrontation at a family home.

According to a probable cause affidavit cited by TMZ Sports, the situation unfolded after the girl reportedly left home without permission on November 14 to meet her 18-year-old boyfriend at a nearby park. Later reports suggest the boyfriend was only a minor, 17 years old.

When she returned home, her mother, Lisa, was awake and instructed her to go to her room and call her boyfriend to come back to the house. Once he arrived, he was told to go inside, and Lisa contacted Beverley and asked him to come over as well.

The affidavit states that Beverley confronted his sister about leaving the house and then grabbed her by the neck with both hands. She told officials that he lifted her completely off the ground and that she felt pain and struggled to breathe for what she estimated to be between 20 and 30 seconds. She said he then carried her out of the bedroom by her neck and hit her against the walls as they moved into another part of the house.

According to the documents, Beverley placed her on a sofa and stood over her before punching her once in the left eye with a closed fist. She also reported that he “made a statement to her during the assault, to the extent that he will be the family relative to kill her.”

After the teen’s boyfriend was asked to leave and Beverley briefly followed him outside, the boyfriend called the police. Responding officers noted marks on her neck along with petechiae in her eyes, which can occur when blood vessels burst due to pressure.

He was taken to the Fort Bend County jail in Texas, where he was booked on charges that include assault involving a family or household member and impeding a family member’s breathing or circulation.

He later posted a $40,000 bond and was released from custody.
