Floyd Mayweather’s $7.3 Million Tax Trouble Could Jeopardize Netflix Rematch!

Lyndon Abioye |

Floyd Mayweather is facing a multimillion-dollar tax problem after the U.S. government reportedly filed a lien against the retired boxing star over more than $7.3 million in unpaid taxes.

The lien was filed in Las Vegas last month and gives the government the right to claim Mayweather’s property until the debt is settled, and according to the filing, the former champion allegedly still owes taxes tied to 2018 and 2023.

As of March 26, the balance remained unpaid.

The latest financial issue comes despite Mayweather’s long history of earning massive paydays throughout his boxing career and exhibition appearances. The 48-year-old fighter previously dealt with tax problems and later paid what he owed.

Mayweather is expected to return to the ring later this year for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao on Netflix, but the matchup may already be facing trouble. Mayweather recently referred to the planned event as an exhibition, even though it was reportedly signed as a professional bout. If the fight agreement requires a sanctioned professional contest, his words could potentially place him in breach of contract and threaten the future of the rematch.

Neither Mayweather nor his representatives has publicly addressed the lien.
