Fans of Jill Scott dragged her online after she tweeted in praise of singer Chris Brown.
“@chrisbrown is amazing. How does ANYBODY sing like THAT? Dance, look, Act and Rap… like THAT? Beyond gifted. It appears, exceptional people have to go through exceptional [fire emoji]. There’s nothing to debate,” the Philly singer wrote.
“And I caution those who refuse to forgive because they will undoubtedly need forgiveness at some point in their lives,” she continued. “We’re all flawed and need help. Power to people who move past violence. The past is a terrible reminder AND the future is ours.”
Her tweets sparked heated responses from her fans.
“Jill Scott and Badu come from an era of women who always thought the girls were the problem and men can do no wrong. I’ve spoke about this several times but those 1965-1980 aunties are something else. I always side eye them,” one fan wrote.
Another fan wrote, “If Chris Brown defended Black women the same way some of them defend him, I would get it. But he’s literally doing the complete opposite while some of y’all tarnish your fanbases around him. But Jill Scott defended Bill Cosby too, so I digress.”
Fans were quick to remind Jill Scott that his ex, Karreuache Tran, was forced to take out a restraining order against Brown due to his obsessive stalking.
