Faizon Love is calling out Ben Affleck’s new Netflix thriller Animals, accusing the filmmaker of copying Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest almost scene for scene.
The comedian didn’t hold back, saying the movie, which stars Affleck and Kerry Washington, lifted its storyline from Lee’s 2025 film starring Denzel Washington.
“I’m not a Spike Lee fan. He actually irks the out of me,” Love said before making his accusation. “But they stole this man’s movie verbatim.”
“It’s the same movie,” he declared, later describing it as “the same movie but just with white in it and one Black chick.”
Released on Netflix on October 9, Animals follows a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife as they navigate a kidnapping and a ransom demand. Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest centers on a wealthy music executive caught in a kidnapping crisis involving someone close to him.
Despite admitting he isn’t particularly fond of Lee, Love challenged why the Oscar-winning director hadn’t publicly addressed the resemblance.
“Somebody got to explain something to me now,” he said.
Spike Lee has not addressed Love’s claims and neither has Netflix nor the movie’s lead characters.
